Passing Game Overview
Dak Prescott turned in a modest 2022 campaign, missing Weeks 2-6 with a right (throwing) thumb break and making minimal rushing impact for the second straight season. In 2016-2020, Prescott averaged 19.0 rushing yards per game. His per-game rushing average in 2021-2022 was 11.7. Dallas did upgrade Dak’s supporting cast by trading for Brandin Cooks, while post-Kellen Moore play-caller Mike McCarthy’s track record in Green Bay was decidedly pass-first. I expect a voluminous 2023 passing season from Prescott but question Dak’s ceiling if his rushing usage stays in line with the past two years. (I tend to believe it will.)
CeeDee Lamb took his game to an elite WR1 level sans Amari Cooper in 2022, finishing No. 4 among NFL wide receivers in targets (156), No. 4 in receptions (107), No. 6 in yards (1,359), and No. 4 in TD catches (9). Including playoffs, Lamb has banked 70-plus yards and/or a touchdown in 14 of his last 18 games. Betting on his ingrained rapport with Dak and McCarthy’s pass-first history, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lamb’s production climbs for a fourth straight season. As Lamb runs nearly 85% of his patterns in the slot, few NFL receivers are privy to more layup routes. He’s a safe pick near the first-/second-round turn.
