Passing Game Overview
As Ryan Tannehill missed five games and ended last season on I.R. (ankle), three different quarterbacks made multiple starts for 2022’s Titans: Tannehill, Josh Dobbs, and Malik Willis. Dobbs departed for Cleveland, although Willis returns, and Tennessee traded up to draft Will Levis out of Kentucky with April’s 33rd overall pick. At his near-free average draft position, I’ve stayed optimistic on Tannehill as a cheap and limited-ceiling if still-viable QB2 whose outlook improved based on DeAndre Hopkins’ acquisition plus Treylon Burks and Chig Okonkwo’s anticipated sophomore advancements. I am a big fan of first-year Titans OC Tim Kelly, whose offensive design stood out (along with Hopkins) in Houston.
Suspended (PEDs) for Weeks 1-6 last season, DeAndre Hopkins returned to average 10.7 targets per game in nine appearances, producing 87-plus yards in five of six games and three TDs with Kyler Murray healthy. Released by the tanking Cardinals this offseason, Hopkins now joins the run-first Titans. Last year, Arizona fired off 208 more pass attempts than Tennessee. Hopkins’ ability to command extreme target volume is longstanding, yet now is the time to bet against him at age 31 in a run-based environment.
