Draft time is upon us. Your fantasy football draft strategy is obviously heavily dependent on what pick you have. In this article, we’ll dig into what we think is the optimal strategy if you have an early pick in the first round.
ROUND 1 STRATEGY
Christian McCaffrey is our top overall pick regardless of format. McCaffrey finished 2.5 half-PPR points per game clear of the next-closest RB (Kyren Williams) en route to winning Offensive Player of the Year. He finished second in carries, first in rushing yards (by nearly 300 yards), and trailed only Raheem Mostert among running backs in rushing scores. And that’s just what he did on the ground — he was highly effective as usual through the passing game, leading all RBs in target share at 18.7%. When healthy, CMC has been the best asset in fantasy for the past half-decade, and there’s no reason to expect that to change in 2024. The only other concern besides injury is that the 49ers are simply too good and decide to ease up on McCaffrey to preserve him for the playoffs. There were definitely games last year where CMC didn’t play in the fourth quarter, but they generally gave him all the work he could handle before that. We view McCaffrey as the clear top asset in fantasy.
