We’re going to get a lot of stuff wrong, but sifting through usage metrics can help us work through what matters and what doesn’t. That’s the goal of this article: to break down the most actionable takeaways from each week in a concise, numbers-filled format and work through what’s important. Let’s get right to it:
1. With Davante Adams out, all three Rams tight ends (Colby Parkinson, Terrance Ferguson, Davis Allen) played at least 65.2% of snaps (Allen) with Sean McVay predictably embracing multi-TE sets. At WR, Konata Mumpfield was the clear WR2 with 46% of snaps and 26 routes on 51 dropbacks, and he managed eight targets for a 16.3% target share. Xavier Smith was the WR3 with 16 routes, then Tutu Atwell (seven), and lastly Jordan Whittington (four). Ferguson posted his second-highest route rate of the year, behind only Week 15 when Adams left early.
2. Jaylin Lane got hurt early. With Noah Brown back on injured reserve, that meant Treylon Burks was back to the WR3 role for Washington. Burks ran 22 routes on 25 dropbacks in total and caught two of five targets for 30 yards.
3. John Bates was ahead of Ben Sinnott for TE1 snaps in Week 15; that flipped on Saturday with Sinnott playing 69% of snaps and out-routing Bates 15-5. He only earned two targets, and that route participation isn’t close to high enough to make him fantasy-relevant.
4. With Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III out, Colston Loveland played 83% of snaps for the Bears, while Cole Kmet played 77%. D.J. Moore (36 routes on 38 dropbacks) and Olamide Zaccheaus (34) were full-time WRs, and Jahdae Walker out-routed Devin Duvernay 10-2 for the WR3 role. Moore’s 20.6% target share tied his highest of the season.
5. Josh Jacobs didn’t practice all week and was questionable, but ended up toughing it out. He was quite limited, playing 39% of snaps and recording 12 carries to Emanuel Wilson‘s 15. Wilson was also more effective, running for 5.9 yards per carry vs. 3.0 for Jacobs, and the Packers leaned harder into Wilson as the game progressed (perhaps partially because of his efficiency and partially because Jacobs was on a snap count). Jacobs ran eight routes on 32 dropbacks with Chris Brooks (11 routes) handling third-down duties. Fantasy managers will have to scour the injury report to gauge whether Jacobs is healthy enough to start next week.
