Large-Field GPP Breakdown: Tour Championship

Well, we gave it our best shot. I was unable to convert 10 MEGA Milly tickets into the big win last week at the BMW, as Wyndham Clark went ballistic down the stretch in Round 4. However, it was still an overall good week for me that we will get into later. We have officially reached the culmination of the 2026 season with the Tour Championship at East Lake. This is the second-to-last year of this format, which is basically a 30-man tournament. As the DFS world begins to transition to football (or already has, like Cody Main), we must prepare for what could be the last $200K-to-first prize we’ll see in golf for the rest of 2026. Someone light the candles in honor of a great year. 

BMW Championship – Recap

As I said, it was a good week overall, albeit not one that ended with that million-dollar prize I’ve been chasing. My FFNQA of Scottie Scheffler worked out, as an unreported case of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease helped my case, and Scheffler was nowhere near any winning lineups. While I obviously ran good with the health news, I remain confident that fully fading Scheffler in a tournament like the BMW was the right play from a DFS perspective. While 1v1s are not necessarily a bad thing, choosing between a larger pool of viable non-Scheffler lineups and a smaller pool of viable Scheffler lineups felt like a no-brainer. While I might not get it right every time, the way I am thinking about the slate is strong, and I just have to wait for the odds to be in my favor. Let’s take a look at the winning lineup in the lotto:

• The winning lineup was an ultra-rare 8/8/8/8/8/6 build. This is honestly one of the first times I’ve ever seen this type of lineup win, so kudos to the user for having the stones to throw this in the lotto and get rewarded for it. For those wondering, the lineup used $49,500, so we once again did not need to leave salary on the table. This may be a different story this week, but we will talk about that later. 
• It had an 82% cumulative ownership, which came in a little bit under the 90-110% range I was generally targeting. This lineup did not have any player above 17% ownership and, with the weird build structure, it was a high-leverage lineup that shot up leaderboards on the final day. Note that Rory McIlroy was not needed in this lineup even with his higher finish. This marks the second year in a row that the BMW winning lineup has come in the 80% range, which we will have to think about next year.

When doing my post-lock analysis, I was quite happy with the way I played. These smaller-field tournaments with Scottie leave a lot of edge for those of us who think through it. I was happy to be on the side that I wanted. My one big mistake this week was not seeing a Chris Gotterup squeeze coming. I figured the field would buy into the bomber narrative given the projection, but he squeezed all the way down to 10% in some other contests. With this knowledge, I would have funneled all of my Viktor Hovland ownership to Gotterup and probably would have had a much better sweat on Sunday.
