The Waste Management Phoenix Open gets its reputation for its theatrics off the course, but boy, does it deliver just as much on the course. Last week’s leaderboard was chock-full of studs, and with the scoring opportunities on the closing holes, it keeps the intensity all the way through. Chris Gotterup has clearly proven he belongs among the top tier in the entire game, and winning the way he did on Sunday was epic. It was a miracle that Hideki Matsuyama held onto his round as long as he did before unraveling on 18 and in the playoff, but having such a bullish position on him and Si Woo Kim left a lot to be desired on that final day. That’s all to be said without the inevitable Scottie Scheffler fighting back to T3 despite playing Thursday over par, and as we highlighted on yesterday’s Lineup Review show, at Scheffler’s current price, so much needs to go right for him to be in winning lineups. That puzzle is emphasized even more this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach, as we’ve entered our first signature event of 2026, meaning only 80 golfers and no cut. Quite the twist from what we’ve gotten accustomed to this year, and it presents very intriguing angles to discuss for DFS this week.

Last week’s Value Report was one of the more frustrating weeks we’ve run into, as the entire group was a flop. It was especially tilting knowing how well-positioned my portfolio was with my Hideki and Si Woo exposure to not have anyone come through on the bottom end. Not only that, but we had our first golfer of the year cross the 10% threshold with HaoTong Li steaming quite a bit. With nine holes to go on Friday, HaoTong was -4 and looked to be borderline in contention with a strong finish. Instead, he turned in a 42 on the scorecard and sent many 5/6s packing to the no-cash zone. Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen shot out to a strong start but stalled out, while Johnny Keefer failed to capitalize again on another strong ball-striking week. Keefer at least outscored his finishing position, while S.H. Kim was pretty ho-hum. I thought that at $6,200, if Scheffler had a massive week, Sudarshan Yellamaraju would have done enough to pay off in those builds. Yella had an insane Friday with a bogey-free 64, improving by 10 strokes on Round 1, but he failed to build on it over the weekend. Adam Schenk was the other missed cut of the bunch, and his performance was rather uninspiring for a return to the Value Report.
