Passing Game Outlook

Bryce Young embarks on a Year 3 journey after a rollercoaster sophomore season. Young was benched for Andy Dalton after two horrendous starts to begin the year, then regained the starting role in Week 8 and became fantasy’s QB12 from Weeks 8-18. He did explode for 36.4 fantasy points in a meaningless Week 18, but he managed to still hold QB16 overall numbers in Weeks 8-17. Young now gets help in the passing game with the eighth overall selection of Tetairoa McMillan, while the offensive line brings back all five starters in Year 2 under Dave Canales. While Young became more fantasy-relevant down the stretch, his passing numbers were still underwhelming. In Weeks 8-18, Young averaged 210.4 passing yards, had 15 touchdown passes to six interceptions in that span, and averaged just 6.6 yards per pass attempt, a bottom-five mark across the league. Young’s fantasy value spiked mostly due to his rushing output. His scramble rate spiked from 5.3% in his first 18 career starts to 8.3% in his final 10 games to end 2024. The former first overall pick also found paydirt five times in those 10 games after posting zero rushing TDs up to that point in his career. We can’t expect Young to score a rushing TD every other game entering 2025, but there’s a glimmer of hope that he found success scrambling and will employ that more often this season, helping both his fantasy floor and ceiling. Add McMillan to the equation in the passing game and there’s reason to dream on Young being fantasy-relevant in single-QB leagues, but we can wait and see in drafts this year as we have Young as the QB24 in our projection-based ranks.
