There’s not much thinking needed on the match count for the best player in the world, as Scottie is going to play all five barring an early blowout. But for as dominant as Scheffler has been individually, his 6-11-4 record in these events since 2021 has been a massive disappointment. I still think Henley is the obvious starting point after the two went 3-0 together in Montreal. At some point, the best golfer on the planet simply has to be better in this format.

What a difference 12 months makes for Young, who entered Bethpage as a Ryder Cup rookie and now comes to Medinah as one of the absolute horses for the Americans. His 3-1 Ryder Cup debut showed that his game translates quite well to this format, and I loved what we saw alongside JT in four-ball. Young was only 17.5% owned at Bethpage coming off the bench, but I can’t imagine the field treating him like that again after his ascension in 2026. He’s good enough now that I don’t think he needs JT attached to his hip, and he joins Scottie as the other American I have a really hard time sitting.
