It’s a seven-game slate and almost every game has at least one interesting thing going on today, so let’s get to it.
Brooklyn Nets (front end) at Detroit Pistons
Injuries: Kevin Durant (O, protocols), Kyrie Irving (P, finger), Iman Shumpert (O, hamstring), Wayne Ellington (Q, calf), Frank Jackson (Q, illness), Delon Wright (Q, ankle), Dennis Smith Jr. (Q, protocols), Jahlil Okafor (O, knee)
We know no KD again, which should up the playing time for Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, Joe Harris, Landry Shamet and maybe even Norvel Pelle. In the loss to the 76ers, coach Steve Nash pulled the plug early when they were down, but today James Harden‘s minutes should be on the rise after Harden played just 29 minutes on Saturday. Regardless of Kyrie’s status, Harden is in a big spot here. Plus, it’s a back-to-back set, so I wouldn’t treat that Kyrie P tag like a normal one. If he can’t go, Bruce Brown could see a little more run and obviously that would make Harden even more attractive.
Lots of questions with the Pistons, but Smith Jr. is very unlikely to play after the trade. If Delon and Jackson can’t go, Saben Lee would be looking at his biggest opportunity of the year. He’s pretty busy on ball when he’s out there, but he’ll likely have to adapt to more off-ball with Jerami Grant and Blake Griffin running the offense a whole bunch. Saddiq Bey would also be playing more, especially if Wayne Ellington can’t go. If no Wayne, Josh Jackson would be a great play in a very favorable matchup.
