Welcome to NBA Matchups! In this series, we try to go over all the comments from coaches to go with some stats and news to get an idea of how a team can perform. Early in the season, we’ll be focusing more on role internally, and later in the year we’ll be looking more outward with the opponent factors for players. Here we go!
Brooklyn Nets at Milwaukee Bucks
Team Totals: Nets 119.5, Bucks 118
Injury Report: Kyrie Irving (O, NWT), Bobby Portis (O, hamstring), Semi Ojeleye (O, calf), Donte DiVincenzo (O, ankle)
Nets projected starters: James Harden, Bruce Brown, Joe Harris, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin
Bucks projected starters: Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Brook Lopez
Nash quotes: Said it’s going to take time to figure out his rotation, said he doesn’t know if it’s going to be set in stone and there will “probably be a lot of changes throughout the season” on the rotation.
Budenholzer quotes: Said they should go smaller without Bobby Portis and Sandro Mamukelashvili could see some time with Thanasis Antetokounmpo likely to benefit most, said Jordan Nwora has made progress on the defensive end.
Stats and Notes:
*The Nets are loaded with bigs and the Bucks are very thin up front with just Brook as their only traditional center with NBA experience. In the preseason, the Nets went jumbo a bunch with KD and Claxton next to Paul Millsap for 14 minutes, LaMarcus Aldridge and KD were with Millsap for six minutes, they ran a 4-5 combo with KD and Millsap for six minutes, and they ran a KD-Blake 4-5 combo for 34 minutes. The Nets might be going bigger in an effort to limit Giannis, but Griffin figures to get a decent amount of work.
