Another signature event down and another Scottie Scheffler victory in the books as his record-setting 2024 continues. I wasn’t lying when I said that signature events had grown on me so far this season, as they’ve taken up a decent chunk of 2024, but I’m also quite happy to get back to our classic weeks moving forward. One thing I will miss however is how often people have been mega-minding their way into fading Scheffler as the smaller fields and higher salary floors have made rostering him a challenge. This size of field will be seen again however at the Olympics, where it will be the first time Scheffler has been priced that way in a much weaker field with only 60 golfers teeing it up. That will be another fun opportunity to lean into the knowledge we’ve built from our small-field run this summer.
It was a very mixed bag from our Value Report at the Travelers Championship with just one golfer of the bunch placing inside the top 10. With a 70-golfer field, I’d rule this one as a poor outing. Results aside, Akshay Bhatia was an absolute smash play with his original single-digit ownership projection, and it wasn’t a surprise to see him being the most steamed golfer on the slate. A very strong course fit, high ceiling outcomes, and an extremely palatable price saw him upwards of 25+% in higher stakes. Our ownership did round up on him quite a bit in the evening update, and honestly, I would have still had Akshay as one of my most exposed plays even at what his ownership ended up being, but he was far from an under-the-radar pick. With Scheffler winning once again and the pricing structure having a $6,000 floor, we did see another situation where a value golfer did not need a top-end finish to be in the winning flagship lineup. Adam Hadwin was the last piece needed at $6,700 to pair with Scheffler/Kim/Im combinations to take down the $200K top prize.
