The FedEx Cup fall heads out into the Atlantic this week for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, with a 120-man field. None of the world’s top 25 are in attendance, or the top 50 for that matter, and Corey Conners (!) is the highest-ranked player in the field at 60th. Adam Schenk defends after winning at -12 last year.
The Course:
Port Royal is a par 71 at just 6,828 yards, one of the shortest courses on Tour. It’s a Robert Trent Jones design that opened in 1970, with Bermudagrass fairways and greens and a Bermuda and zoysia rough cut to about two inches. The greens are big, averaging around 8,000 square feet, and run about 11 on the Stimp. There are three par 5s, four par 3s, and 11 par 4s. The property moves a lot, with big elevation changes and several isolated tee boxes, and water is in play on seven holes.
