The best week on the golf calendar is here. That’s right, friends, it’s Masters week! What more do we really need to say? The field will obviously feature every big name in golf with each of the top 25 in the world in attendance as well as the best of the best from LIV.
The Course:
Augusta National will host The Masters for the 81st consecutive year. As modern technology has evolved, Augusta has done everything in its power to evolve with it and now presents itself as one of the longest golf courses of the season, a 7,565-yard par 72 setup with 10 par 4s, four par 3s, and four par 5s. For the first time this season, players will see true bentgrass putting surfaces at Augusta, while the fairways, tees, and rough will feature a rye overseed blend.
Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie and Bobby Jones in 1933, Augusta National is one of the most iconic golf courses in the world. Famous for impeccable conditioning, lack of rough, diabolical putting surfaces, and back-nine volatility that rivals just about any course in the world, Augusta is one of a kind. Many things are unique to Augusta, but it starts with the setup off the tee. Augusta has some of the widest fairways on Tour at over 52 yards on average, and even when players miss the fairways, they often find themselves in what most would consider to be a “first cut” of rough at just 1.375 inches long. While the landing areas are generous and small misses are unimpactful, big misses can still lead to trouble. Whether players find themselves in super deep fairway bunkers, dense pine straw/pine trees, or worse, the sprays off the tee are punished harshly while small misses aren’t.
