Philadelphia @ New England

Team Totals: Eagles 24.5, Patriots 20.5

Jalen Hurts is an obvious Week 1 smash against Bill Belichick’s defense, which got gashed for weekly fantasy finishes of QB3 (Josh Allen), QB12 (Allen), QB5 (Justin Fields), QB1 (Lamar Jackson), and QB3 (Allen) in its last five meetings with dual-threat signal-callers. Philly’s offensive line is healthy and loaded. Hurts led all quarterbacks in per-game fantasy scoring last year. … The Eagles will use three if not four running backs in an RBBC involving D’Andre Swift, Rashaad Penny, Kenneth Gainwell, and Boston Scott. Hurts is also a major part of Philadelphia’s backfield. Last year’s Eagles RBs averaged 24.5 touches per game; on Opening Day, I’m projecting 11 touches for Swift, seven for Penny, four for Gainwell, and two for Scott.

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are bet-on-talent plays against a Patriots secondary that last year yielded the NFL’s fourth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. Still only 26, Brown is coming off a career-best 88/1,496/11 stat line in his debut season with the Eagles. Smith drew just nine fewer targets than Brown over the course of 2022 and generated rave camp reviews. Brown is a surefire WR1 and Smith an upside WR2. … Neither Quez Watkins nor Olamide Zaccheaus offers Week 1 fantasy appeal. That could eventually change if Brown or Smith goes down. … Dallas Goedert runs into a Week 1 buzzsaw versus safeties Kyle Dugger and Adrian Phillips. Last year’s Patriots let up the league’s eighth-fewest yards to tight ends.
