Some observers were disappointed when HC Kevin Stefanski named Tua Tagovailoa the Falcons’ Week 1 starter over Michael Penix Jr., but Penix (knee) admitted he is not physically ready to play, and Penix won’t even open the season as Tua’s backup. (Cooper Rush got that nod.) Tagovailoa is a checkdown machine, capping the ceiling of his team’s offense but benefiting the receiving outlook of his running back. The Falcons kept only two tailbacks on their final roster — Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. — and I think Bijan can outpace his prolific 2025 passing-game numbers (79/820/4) for as long as Tua stays at the controls.
