Las Vegas @ L.A. Chargers
Team Totals: Chargers 28, Raiders 24.5
Only Chiefs-Cardinals is totaled higher than Raiders-Chargers on Week 1’s slate, rendering this a game to attack for DFS purposes and in season-long lineup decisions. Derek Carr’s biggest concern should be pass protection behind Vegas’ swinging-gate offensive line — rated 27th in the league by Brandon Thorn — against All-Pro EDGE talents Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. Still equipped with the best weapons cast of his career after Davante Adams’ acquisition, Carr does stand to benefit from the Bolts’ loss of top CB J.C. Jackson (ankle surgery) and is fringe QB1/2 playable in this potential track meet. … Josh McDaniels’ long track record of RBBC utilization forewarns of a fantasy-unfriendly and role-specific backfield in Vegas, especially after the franchise declined Josh Jacobs’ fifth-year option, drafted two running backs, and signed a pair of free agents. My tentative expectation is for Jacobs and impressive fourth-round rookie Zamir White to near-evenly share early-down work with Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden handling passing downs. I also expect the Chargers’ run defense to vastly improve via the up-front additions of Mack, versatile LB Kyle Van Noy, and space-eating DTs Austin Johnson and Sebastian Joseph-Day.
