All week, rumors swirled that the Giants were looking to trade up into the back end of Round 1. Those rumors came to fruition late Thursday night when New York made their move up to select Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. Brian Daboll‘s Giants are undergoing a full reload at the QB position this offseason, signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before drafting Dart in the first round. Let’s break down what this means for fantasy purposes.
JAXSON DART
- Dart beat out third-year QB Kedon Slovis for the starting job as a freshman at USC and then transferred to Ole Miss after USC fired his coach (Clay Helton). He was a three-year starter for Lane Kiffin’s Rebels and improved his production and efficiency each of his three years in Oxford, culminating with a 10.5-YPA campaign in which he threw for 4,279 yards, 29 TDs, and six interceptions. Dart had 1,541 career rushing yards and provides more with his legs than Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. Scouts like his athletic traits and competitive spirit but note his anticipation could be better, and the offense at Ole Miss didn’t require him to move beyond his second read very often. Dart’s mobility is good, but he’s not a true running QB who will move the needle in fantasy football once he gets a starting gig in the pros. Given he’s unlikely to garner elite draft capital (early Round 1), Dart is nothing more than a best ball QB3 in his rookie season.
