Golf Lineup Review: Mexico Open

Just as our Adam Levitan does each week during the NFL season, every Monday we’ll be using the week-long nature of DFS golf to take advantage of the extended feedback loop by analyzing what went right and what went wrong in the previous week’s slate, regardless of results.

Each week, we’ll review a variety of cash-game & GPP lineups in an effort to take you inside our thought process as we approached Thursday’s lock and how our projection- and ownership-based expectations stacked up against the field.

 

DraftKings Small-Field Tournament

 

It was a sweat-free weekend for me in the small-field GPP streets on DraftKings, as my main tournament team saw three golfers miss the cut, including Chris Gotterup (illness), who made other arrangements for the weekend in Puerto Vallarta and was forced to withdraw prior to his Friday tee time. Let’s take a look at how we got there:

 

My small-field GPP brain was in a bit of a pretzel Wednesday night as I sat down to finalize my tournament teams trying to wrap my mind around what our opponents were going to do with Tony Finau ($12,000), Nicolai Hojgaard ($10,700), and the other golfers at the top of the board. Opening as the pre-tournament favorite around +700 as the clear class of the field with finishes of T2 and first in his previous Vidanta Vallarta appearances, I didn’t think even the clearly broken putter would be enough to scare away a meaningful portion of the field and I made Finau’s small-field range 35-43%, giving me enough reason to start looking at other roster constructions.
