Golf Top Plays: Zurich Classic

Below, you will find the players we consider the best for the slate. These do NOT account for ownership, but they do account for salary. In other words, Jon Rahm could be our No. 1 play in the high range… but he could also be a bad tournament play because he projects for 60% ownership in an extreme example.

This article is for cash games (contests in which roughly 50% of the field gets paid out, such as a head-to-head or double-up). For tournaments, our focus should be more on the projected ownership and projected ceiling columns in our projections table.

With that said, these are our Top Plays considering the following factors: median projection, lower volatility, upside, and value. They are listed in price descending order. At the bottom, you’ll find suggested rankings by site once salary is accounted for.

HIGH-PRICED

Brooks Koepka and Shane Lowry ($10,000) – Simply having two PGA Tour-level golfers on a team is a great start at this event, which features plenty of names who don’t quite belong. There is a surprisingly strong handful of duos at the top of the board, including Koepka and Lowry, who rank second and third, respectively, over the last six months in Data Golf’s True Strokes Gained: Approach and are fourth and 10th in SG: Tee-to-Green. Lowry’s putting (22nd) can mask some of Koepka’s recent flaws on the greens, and Koepka’s distance (14th) should help put them in position to get there off the tee. All told, it’s a compelling, complementary squad that should have plenty of opportunities to rack up points — and we couldn’t pass up the rare opportunity to write a Koepka blurb.
