Kyler Murray is among 2020’s most popular breakout candidates and for good reason; one year after Murray finished as fantasy’s overall QB8, the Cardinals replaced 2019’s frustrating Damiere Byrd–Trent Sherfield–KeeSean Johnson perimeter rotation with DeAndre Hopkins, a back-shoulder and contested-catch maven who should spike the efficiency of Arizona’s passing game. Murray’s dual-threat capability heightens his floor – he ranked No. 2 in quarterback rushing yards as a rookie – while Hopkins’ addition catapults his passing outlook. Nevertheless, among this year’s tier-two passers, I expect more-proven fantasy difference makers Dak Prescott, Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson, and Russell Wilson to outscore still-fledgling sophomore Murray. Kyler’s rookie season was flash filled and promising, but I’m betting his true leap will take place in 2021, which will be Murray and Kingsbury’s third year together, and Hopkins will have a full season with Kyler under his belt. I’m ranking Murray a shade below consensus in 2020.
