The ETR projections team — Michael Leone, Mark Dankenbring, and I — are drafting a $2,000 buy-in FFPC Main Event team. In this article, we’ll be live-blogging the draft, detailing our thought process on each pick. This year, we’re doing a slow draft with a two-hour clock, meaning the draft will go faster than it has the previous two times we did it. That means we’re just going to write out our explanations for each pick rather than doing audio clips as we have in years past.

From a structural standpoint, we know we are likely to like the mid-round WRs more than the room, so we wanted to leave the 1-2 turn with at least one running back. Saquon Barkley, Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Christian McCaffrey, and De’Von Achane were all off the board, making it a fairly straightforward running back pick with Jeanty. The market is sometimes worried about downside risk with rookie backs, but RBs with Jeanty’s level of draft capital and production profile are nearly bulletproof, and the upside outweighs the downside, especially in a large-field tournament like a Main Event.
