Value Report: Waste Management Phoenix Open

What a dominant performance for the man who loves theatrics, Justin Rose. To not just win at the age of 45, but to do so by a touchdown at one of the more difficult venues all year was quite the scene. From a DFS standpoint, his performance at $7,500, coupled with the three most expensive players missing cut, resulted in balanced builds being the path to victory. There wasn’t a single player in the $6K range in any of the top-20 lineups in the large-field Sand Trap contest, as players like Patrick Rodgers at $7,200 and Pierceson Coody at $7,400 were more than enough to pair with Si Woo Kim starts at $9,500. We’ve now seen this type of structure play out twice so far in three events, with the Sony Open being the other, but as we enter another Scottie Scheffler slate at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, value plays will be needed!

Looking at our value plays from the Farmers Insurance Open, I wasn’t happy with the results overall. The best of the bunch was HaoTong Li, who continues to impress, and we will hit on him again later. He actually outscored Rodgers at half the ownership. I loved the bounce-back play with Kristoffer Reitan, as he went from being in our optimal lineups at the Sony Open to completely written off after finishing dead last. A steady T30 rights the ship for him, and I’m expecting a massive rookie year. Ricky Castillo did his thing as far as outscoring his finishing position again, but ultimately, the $6K range just wasn’t the route necessary with Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, and Ludvig Aberg failing to the degree they did.
