If continuity exists on a spectrum — with D.C. representing ideal stability and Columbus representing nearly full roster turnover — Dallas falls neatly in the middle between them. The Renegades get a minor rebrand, going from Arlington to Dallas, but many of the faces we’ve grown familiar with from past seasons will once again be featured in 2026.
Consistent with every team not named D.C., Dallas will also be bringing in a new coaching staff after former HC Bob Stoops retired, making way for Rick Neuheisel, and former OC Chuck Long was replaced by Noel Mazzone. Neuheisel and Mazzone are at least indirectly familiar with one another from when they crossed paths at UCLA, with Mazzone taking over as OC in 2012 after Neuheisel was fired, and his son joining the team as a freshman QB that same season. While Neuheisel has been both an OC and HC for nearly 30 years, his last coaching gig came with the AAF Arizona Hotshots in 2019. Mazzone, on the other hand, has been more active of late, serving as the OC/QB coach for the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers in 2022, the Pittsburgh Maulers in 2023, and the Memphis Showboats in 2025. Mazzone’s Maulers offense struggled in 2023, ranking last in yards per game (242.8) on a middling 62.1% situation-neutral pass rate and the league’s second-fewest plays per game (53.6). In 2025, Memphis dropped back on 59.2% of their passes but ranked sixth out of eight teams in plays per game (53.4), sixth in YPA (6.1), last in YPC (3.51), and last in yards per play (4.7). Some of Mazzone’s spring football woes can likely be chalked up to subpar QB play — his 2022 Breakers offense was fourth in yards per game (303.3) — but there remains a wide range of outcomes, even with Spring King Luis Perez under center.
