Currently, the nationwide sportsbooks I use for this column are not posting in-season odds for Defensive Rookie of the Year or Coach of the Year. So, if you are debating an in-season play on either of those or the other awards discussed in this column, feel free to reach out to me via Twitter @RyanReynNJ or via email [email protected]. My offseason study is the foundation for my awards process, and that can be found here.
Additionally, in certain spots I have discussed my views on potentially selling shares of an awards bet. A big part of my awards betting process involves when to consider selling high and when to buy (often buy back) low. If you have an awards ticket and are considering selling it early, you are also welcome to reach out via Twitter or email.
The MVP Race
The Leaders
Russell Wilson (+275 Fox Bet): Through three weeks, the Seahawks are continuing to finally let Russ cook and Wilson is going absolutely ballistic with this opportunity. Wilson is first in passing, he’s third in QBR, he’s first in rating, and his Seahawks are not only 3-0, but they already have two high-profile wins. Looking ahead, Wilson’s most difficult remaining games are: Week 7 at AZ, Week 9 at BUF, Week 10 at LAR, Week 11 on Thursday vs AZ, and Week 17 at SF. The Seahawks may be favored in every game for the rest of the year, and the MVP is now Russ’s to lose.
Patrick Mahomes (+400 Fox Bet): Mahomes is currently third in passing touchdowns, first in QBR, sixth in rating which is the one area he’s off the pace in, and his Chiefs are 3-0 with two very high-profile wins already in the books. Going forward, the Chiefs’ most difficult opponents are: Week 4 vs NE, Week 6 at BUF on a Thursday, Week 12 at TB, and Week 15 at NO. A 14-2 record is very realistic for Kansas City, and Mahomes is roughly the same price now as he was before the season started with the Chiefs’ most difficult game already in the books (at BAL last week). That said, Russell Wilson is firmly in the MVP lead heading into Week 4 and his Seahawks also have a clean path to a No. 1 seed.
