After a long run of elevated events, the Tour exhales this week with the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. This is a standard event, not a Signature, with an $8 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points, and a full 144-man field playing four rounds with a cut. The Deere has long been the lightest field of the season, a function of its calendar slot the week before the Genesis Scottish Open and the build toward The Open Championship, which sends most of the game’s biggest names across the Atlantic to prep for links golf rather than to the Quad Cities. This year is a bit of an exception. While the field is much weaker than the last few weeks, it is the strongest the Deere has drawn in ages, with eight top-50 players making the trip.

The Course:

TPC Deere Run is a par 71 listed at 7,300 yards, a D.A. Weibring design that opened in 2000 and has hosted the event ever since. It runs across rolling Midwestern ground above the Rock River, tree-lined but generous, with bentgrass throughout and a set of greens that rank among the purest and most receptive the Tour sees all year. This is a comfortable golf course, and it is also one of the easiest.

By our numbers, Deere Run is the second-easiest course on the entire calendar, playing well under par year after year. Davis Thompson torched it to -28 to win in 2024, a tournament record, and that kind of number is not an aberration here. The fairways are wide and easy to find, ranking among the most generous on Tour. The field also hits a ton of greens, and the rough and penalty profile are both below average, so there is very little here to punish a loose swing. The par 3s and par 4s grade out as some of the softest sets we have data on, and the par 5s are all reachable and there for the taking. There is also little on this course that exposes weakness.
