Welcome to the 15th edition of GPP Leverage for the 2020-2021 NBA season. This article is going to be a catch-all space for my GPP thoughts. In most of the articles, I’ll address some of the relevant GPP plays for that day’s slate, but some of the articles will be more focused on plays and others more focused on strategy. In today’s edition of Leverage, we’re going back to slate-specific analysis for today’s seven-game slate.
In the final two weeks of the season, it’s important to try and assess team motivations. While the NBA has done a lot to derail tanking by flattening out lottery odds, there is still an incentive for teams to finish near the bottom of the standings. Five teams are between 19-21 wins and the gap between 3rd and 5th in that range goes from 52% odds of a Top-4 pick to 37.2% odds. You can visualize this thanks to the good folks at Tankathon.com.
