Houston @ L.A. Chargers
Team Totals: Texans 22.5, Chargers 18
Houston returns from its Week 8 bye still missing (but not really) main grinder back David Montgomery (groin) — whose return still “isn’t imminent,” per beat reports — fielding an offense built to feature the pass despite the loss of Jaylin Noel (turf toe, I.R.). C.J. Stroud is on pace for career bests in completion rate (64.8%), passing Success Rate (46.9%), and QBR (68.9). Yet Stroud still ranks a middling 15th among quarterbacks in per-game fantasy scoring, while Texans-Chargers has the fourth-lowest total on Week 9’s slate. Last in the NFL in points per game (14.1), the Bolts look incapable of turning this into a back-and-forth affair. Stroud is just a QB2. … Over Houston’s last three games, Woody Marks has averaged 18.7 touches on a combined 84% playing-time clip. Marks has scored zero touchdowns during that span, however, and averaged just 3.8 yards per carry. Marks’ workload remains secure sans Montgomery, while the Chargers have yielded the NFL’s 10th-most fantasy points to running backs. I’m treating Marks as a low-ceiling, if fairly high-floor, RB2 play.
