Team Totals: Texans 22, Colts 20.5
Talking oneself into C.J. Stroud as a Week 3 fantasy play is difficult sans top-two WRs Nico Collins (hamstring) and Jayden Higgins (ACL, I.R.), but the matchup is certainly ripe. Playing league-worst defense, the Colts have hemorrhaged over 500 yards in consecutive games while allowing QB5 (Lamar Jackson) and QB4 (Patrick Mahomes) weekly finishes. Stroud dropped back to pass a whopping 59 times in last Sunday’s loss to Cincinnati and still managed Week 2’s QB14 finish. Stroud is just a fantasy QB2 here. … Just as gettable on the ground, Indy has served up a combined 56/294/3 (5.3 YPC) rushing line to opposing running backs. The Texans rank bottom three in ESPN’s Run Block Win Rate — David Montgomery has been hit in the backfield on a league-high 73% of his carries (@lordreebs) — but Montgomery should have more running lanes here based on the matchup. Even after last week’s game-script-driven flop, I’m going back to Montgomery as a volume-driven RB2. He needs the Texans’ defense to play its best game so far this season, which it should.
