Minnesota @ Atlanta
Team Totals: Falcons 20.5, Vikings 16.5
In place of Kirk Cousins (Achilles, I.R.) with trade acquisition Josh Dobbs not yet ready, the Vikings will trot out fifth-round rookie Jaren Hall at Atlanta. Smallish (6’0″/207) but athletic (4.62 forty), Hall averaged nearly 30 rushing yards per start over his final two years at BYU and drew a Gardner Minshew comparison from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein before the draft. I’d still rather tee up the Falcons’ D/ST here. … Dobbs figures to be ready next week, and Nick Mullens (back) can come off of I.R. at the same time. I figure this will be Hall’s only 2023 start. … Alexander Mattison out-snapped Cam Akers 44 to 17 and out-touched him 17 to 10 in Week 8’s win over Green Bay. Yet Mattison hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown in a single game this year and has cleared 100 yards from scrimmage once. It does help that Atlanta lost stud DT Grady Jarrett (ACL) last week. Mattison remains a low-floor RB2/flex option. … You’re almost entirely on your own trying to project Vikings pass catchers with Hall at quarterback; he’s attempted four career passes, and a run-first game plan could be in store. Jordan Addison figures to draw A.J. Terrell’s shadow coverage. I’m treating him as a WR3, K.J. Osborn as a WR4/flex, and T.J. Hockenson as a low-end TE1.
