Targeting kickers in fantasy football isn’t much different than other positions. We’re looking for a combination of talent and opportunity. Opportunity is just tougher to pin down week to week thanks to the variance in how an NFL game can play out. Therefore, we want kickers who we know can capitalize on the opportunity when they get a chance, and those who play on offenses that are likely to be in “scoring position” more than others are likely to get more chances. Kickers that play home games in an ideal weather environment (domes) also see a slight boost in our rankings.

Here’s how we’re viewing kicker tiers in 2023 based on talent and opportunity.

*Kicker’s home games are played in a dome. AKA “Dome Field Advantage”

Tier 1: High Floor, High Ceiling

Justin Tucker (BAL) – It’s impossible to make a kicker tiers article without Tucker in the first tier. Tucker has finished outside the top seven among fantasy kickers just once in his 11-year career, ranking 11th in points per game in 2014. He’s the league’s best kicker and a reliable one for a top-five fantasy finish. Now inject an uptempo offense under Todd Monken, and Tucker could be a rare kicker that actually separates from the pack.

Younghoe Koo* (ATL) – Koo has finished first, first, 18th, and fifth in points per game among kickers since he took over in Week 10 of the 2019 season. The Falcons play in one of the easiest divisions in football, play their home games in a dome, and should be an above-average scoring offense. Koo’s 89.1% success rate on field goals is second all-time only to Justin Tucker. Plus, he allows for some great team names, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Jason Myers (SEA) – Myers finished as the fourth overall kicker in 2022 and the Seattle offense should only improve this season. Myers’ 85.9% success rate on field goal attempts ranks 13th all-time. Pete Carroll is typically in the bottom third among coaches in aggressiveness on 4th down and 2-point conversions, so Myers’ role should be steady week to week.

Tier 2: Moderate Floor, High Ceiling

Cameron Dicker/Dustin Hopkins* (LAC) – The league’s most fascinating training camp battle may very well be Dustin Hopkins vs. Cameron Dicker, the kicker. I kid, but it is somewhat impactful for redraft fantasy leagues. Both Hopkins and Dicker were effective for the Chargers last season, and it appears that Hopkins has picked up another injury in camp, giving the advantage to Dicker for the time being. The Chargers are expected to be one of the fastest and highest-scoring offenses in the league this season, and we want any piece we can get (even kickers).
