The best season-long fantasy football players are continually attacking the waiver wire and churning through their roster. That’s especially true early in the season, when we learn so much about roles.

With that in mind, we want to prioritize upside over everything else with our later-round picks. If it doesn’t work out, we can simply drop them for the inevitable high-quality options that will be on the waiver wire come September. Note that this is very different from best ball, where we are stuck with them all season.

Here are my favorite targets with a home league Average Draft Position (ADP) of 120.0 or later as of Aug. 15. The ADP I am using is a combo of Yahoo, Sleeper, and RTSports’ half-PPR ADP.

Note that players I like such as Jaylen Warren, Rome Odunze, Xavier Worthy, Brock Bowers, Jayden Daniels, Jordan Addison, Chase Brown, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba all go too high to be considered a “flier”.

These are listed in ADP order, but please consult your league’s specific draft applet to understand more about where they will go.

1. Jameson Williams, WR, Lions – ADP 121.3

Jameson Williams tore through the SEC for 79/1,572/15 during his final season at Alabama in 2021. Since then, it’s been a mess. A torn ACL in his last college game, a gambling suspension, and hamstring issues have all caused problems.

But Williams is still just 23 years old, and appears to be turning a corner as he enters his third NFL season. The Lions have placed unwavering faith in him, complimenting his maturity on and off the field. They let Josh Reynolds walk and didn’t replace him. Williams is going to be a borderline every-down player on the outside, while ARSB/Gibbs/LaPorta soak up the middle-of-the-field work.

Williams is an easy “bet-on-talent-in-a-strong-offense-and-let-the-chips-fall” play, even if there are volume concerns.

2. Brian Thomas, WR, Jaguars – ADP 132.7

In a different wide receiver class, Brian Thomas would’ve gotten far more hype. He’s 6-foot-3/209 with 4.33 speed and went for
