Passing Game Outlook
Fresh off a career-best 7.7% touchdown rate and his most points per game (20.6) since 2019, 38-year-old Matthew Stafford was reassured with a one-year extension tying him to the Rams through 2027. Unfortunately (for his projection), the 15 QBs to achieve a 7% TD rate in the last decade all failed to duplicate that mark the following year, averaging a 2.2% decline and 4.4 fewer per-game points — a margin that would’ve dropped Stafford from last year’s QB3 to outside the top 12.
He’ll undoubtedly be overdrafted for his most recent results in home leagues, leaving him as one of the easiest fades (with no rushing juice) on the board. No. 13 overall pick Ty Simpson is not expected to play barring an injury to Stafford, being drafted solely for GM Les Snead’s friendship with longtime UT Martin head coach (and Ty’s father) Jason Simpson. I often found myself selecting Cardinals third-rounder Carson Beck over Ty in rookie drafts.
