Bickerstaff quotes: Said they were able to hit the boards and the guards kept them really organized, said Duren is playing with “extreme confidence” and he’s only getting better, said their defense triggered their offense, said THJ “is a spark for us” and they believe in his shooting ability, said Holland doesn’t have any fear and he helps them win games.
Lee quotes: Said the Wolves were physical, but they did get some OK looks.
Stats and Notes:
*The Pistons continue to play some solid basketball at 17th in defense and 20th in offense despite a schedule that isn’t easy. The Pistons have been excellent with their interior defense at sixth in rim D, and they’ve been better at giving up C&S stuff lately. The Pistons are actually third in transition possessions allowed, too. Who the hell is this team on defense? Their offense doesn’t really have a clear identity with their rim/mid/3PA frequency all ranging between 12th-18th, and they’re playing at a normal pace at 19th on offense. For the Hornets, they’re still not playing fast enough at 21st in O pace (20th in total pace), and they’re just 17th in transition possessions. The biggest identity for the Hornets has been bombing from deep at 45.2% of their shots to rank third. On the other side, they are really getting torched from deep, but, to be fair, they’ve faced the top two teams in 3-point frequency in each of their last three games (Wolves, Celtics). The Hornets were a middle-of-the-pack trey defense before this three-game stretch, so maybe they can get back on track. Looking at the play-type stuff, the Hornets are getting beat on O boards yet again, and rollers have crushed them. We know what centers can do to the Hornets.
Great matchups: Jalen Duren, Brandon Miller
Good matchups: LaMelo Ball, Cade Cunningham
Bad matchups: Nobody
