Preseason DFS is a different beast. Unlike the regular season, our main job is to identify players who will get the most playing time. Of course, that’s easier said than done. Our team spends an unhealthy amount of time researching to come up with the Depth Chart Notes and Top Plays (below). For Showdown slates, please be sure to consult Cody Main’s article.

TIER 1

Josh Johnson, Baltimore – We know HC John Harbaugh won’t play Lamar Jackson in preseason Week 2 and Tyler Huntley (hamstring) is expected to sit as well. You could flip a coin here between Johnson and Anthony Brown, but the right answer may ultimately come down to which one starts Monday night’s game. Johnson is a proven preseason passer, completing 61.6% of his passes for 7.0 YPA and a 19:6 TD:INT ratio. He’s also shown rushing upside historically, though it may be more limited as a veteran.

Anthony Brown, Baltimore – Likely a more willing runner at this stage of his career, Brown has posted a modest 9/37/1 rushing line in preseason action but showed his rushing ability in his final year at Oregon, rushing for 151/658/9. He was an effective passer in limited preseason action last year, boasting a 69.1% completion percentage, 8.6 YPA, and a 3:2 TD:INT ratio.

Ravens D/ST – The Ravens’ defense is not short on talent and with Washington potentially down a few starting OL, this unit may be facing reserves for a large portion of Monday night’s contest. With few skill-position players projecting for significant playing time, we want to lock up the one position we know can score fantasy points for a full four quarters.

Commanders D/ST – Both Johnson and Brown are mobile enough to elude pressure and limit the number of sacks they absorb, but both are capable of making mistakes at this stage. We give a slight edge to Baltimore’s defense if forced to choose straight up, but both are among the slate’s best overall options.
