If you drafted any best ball in the last few weeks, you might have noticed a major market shift on the players who usually miss games. However, Yahoo! has been pretty solid at baking in the proper games-played weight. Meanwhile, some of the ESPN ranks are just not correct right now (Brook Lopez is 55th, for example), so we’ll have to wait a bit there on how to attack those ranks. I’ll be doing the Exploiting the Default Ranks for ESPN in early October, but let me know if you have an early draft and I’ll try to post it for you. Appreciate you guys!
For now, let’s just go over the Shy Away List for Yahoo! These are the guys that I won’t be targeting in drafts based on how they’re ranked:
Anthony Davis – AD playing power forward should have a negative impact on his FG%, and it’s fair to expect his block rate to take a dip. While Jason Kidd is almost certainly going to play AD minutes in the mid-30s, there’s a little too much risk to take him over the elite guards in the first round.
LeBron James – LeBron is a fine pick in best ball, but over the course of a season-long league, he may be a pain to roster during the times he’s sitting out. LeBron’s steals and blocks have also come down a little as he ages. I’m fine with LeBron in the third round, but I wouldn’t take him in the second.
