Fantasy basketball drafts can get wild way more often than football ones because most fantasy football sharps respect ADP a lot, making it a little easier to paint a picture of how your draft is going to go. Plus, in hoops, there’s not a lot of groupthink like in football, so you may have no idea who your opponents are pouncing on. In category leagues, that could also shift how someone drafts, and there are so many more viable strategies. All this said, you need to have a slew of options at the ready when you’re up.
A few years ago, I did a Perfect Draft article, but I like this format a little more to have some optionality. As mentioned above, it’s just more unpredictable in an NBA draft. This edition is for Yahoo Fantasy based on the ADPs on their site (not X rank). Here’s a Wish List of guys I want to target based on where they’re going.
First Round
In the first round, you can pretty much follow the rankings. The only thing to note is if you’re going FT% punt and want to take Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of our rank, it’s a viable strategy.
Early Second Round (meaning you picked late first, talking picks 13-18)
Wish list: Tyrese Haliburton, Karl-Anthony Towns
Analysis: You’re probably not getting Haliburton (10th on ADP), but KAT should be there for you at 15.6 ADP. KAT is one of my favorite targets in any format, and no more Mitchell Robinson helps his ceiling and floor. He’s such an easy click, and he fits any build you want. You may need blocks later, which is fine. We’re pretty in line with Yahoo at the 1-2 turn.
