Welcome to the Week 9 edition of Snaps & Pace, where we examine trends in play volume and game pace. It is meant to be a 30,000-foot view of upcoming contests, with the goal of identifying which matchups will – and which will not – be played on fertile fantasy soil. For a primer on why this is important, click here.
With the Bengals, Eagles, and Rams on bye, the Cardinals facing a plodding Dolphins team with an ascending defense, and the former pace darlings from Dallas currently road kill, we’re without several of our favorite tempo-setters. There’s still plenty to get to this week, so let’s dive right in.
Up In Pace
Seattle Seahawks at Buffalo Bills
While the Seahawks’ matchup with the 49ers didn’t truly pop – at least while Jimmy Garoppolo was gimping around – Seattle elevated the game’s overall play volume (133 combined snaps) and scoring (62 total points). Russell Wilson remained busy, passing on 64% of plays while the game was within one score. It synched up with the Seahawks’ seasonal rate (63%), which ranks third highest. Seattle is still top-10 in situation-neutral pace during the last month (via the RotoViz Pace App), while their contests average the second-most combined plays (139.3) and the league’s most total points (62.7).
