Head Coach
HC | Pep Hamilton First-time head coach. Colts offensive coordinator from 2013-15. |
Offensive Coordinator
OC | Tanner Engstrand. |
Quarterback
QB1 | Cardale Jones Won national championship at Ohio State in 2014. Stands 6’5/250, ran 4.81 with a strong 36-inch vertical at Combine. Has been worst QB in league over last three weeks, resulting in him getting benched during Week 5. Week 6 starter is currently unknown. |
QB2 | Tyree Jackson 2018 MAC Player of the Year, stands 6’7/249. Showed some rushing upside last NFL preseason, compiling 25-110-1 line on just 126 snaps. Came off bench to replace an ineffective Cardale Jones in Week 5 and managed team to a win. Went 9-of-14 for 64 yards with a TD and rushed seven times for 32 yards. Week 6 starter currently unknown. |
QB3 | CJ Collins Added with roster expansions on March 9th. |
Running Back
RB1 | Donnel Pumphrey Drafted 7th round, 49th overall in XFL Draft. Former 4th-round NFL pick of the Eagles at a Sproles-like 5’9/176. Played well ahead of Jhurell Pressley in Weeks 3 and 4, but was in dead-even rotation in Week 5. |
RB2 | Jhurell Pressley Drafted 3rd round, 17th overall in XFL Draft. Very solid athlete at 5’10/206. Went 96-431-1 rushing and 11-86-2 receiving in eight AAF games last season. Rose from the dead in Week 5, playing on 30 snaps and leading team with 19 touches. We expect a relatively even timeshare with Pumphrey in Week 6. |
RB3 | Nick Brossette 23-year-old out of LSU was a workhorse for Patriots last preseason but managed just 3.1 YPC and five receptions. |
RB4 | Khalid Abdullah Wasn’t among top-80 picks in XFL Draft. 5’10/220 who went 298-1809-22 as a senior at FCS James Madison in 2016. Inactive for Week 5. |
Wide Receiver
WR1/KR | Eli Rogers 5’10/187 with significant NFL experience. Caught 78 balls for Steelers from 2016-2018. Has one of XFL’s strongest usage roles, playing on 85% of the snaps and seeing 25% of the targets through five weeks. Handles punt return duties. |
WR2 | Rashad Ross Drafted 2nd round, 9th overall of XFL Draft by Los Angeles. Traded to DC in exchange for Tre McBride (WR) on January 12. Role has spiked over last two weeks as he played 83% of the snaps in Week 4 and 76% in Week 5. Biggest concern now is QB play. |
WR3 | DeAndre Thompkins Drafted 4th round, 32nd overall in XFL Draft. Caught just 83 balls in four seasons at Penn State from 2015-18, struggled with drops. Ran eye-opening 4.33 at 5’11/188 at Pro Day. Played on 40-of-62 snaps in Week 5, but DC’s quarterback woes leave the floor very low. |
WR4 | Malachi Dupre 7th-round draft pick in 2017 by the Packers after catching 84 balls in his final two seasons at LSU. Ran 4.52 at 6’2/196 at Combine. Played just four snaps in Week 4 and 11 in Week 5. |
WR5 | Simmie Cobbs Only played 17 snaps in Week 3 even though Malachi Dupre was inactive. |
WR6/KR | Deion Holliman Primarily used for punt returns only. |
WR7 | Tyler Palka Added with roster expansions on March 9th. |
WR8 | Jalen Rowell Added with roster expansions on March 9th. |
Tight End
TE1 | Khari Lee Selected 5th round, 33rd overall in XFL Draft. Has a near every-down role, but has only seen 8 targets in five games. |
TE2 | Derrick Hayward |
TE3 | Donnie Ernsberger Primarily blocker in college. Spent time with Bucs 2018, Jags 2019. |
