Carolina @ Tampa Bay
Team Totals: Bucs 21, Panthers 16
1-10 following Week 12’s loss to Tennessee with a revised coaching staff that will feature OC Thomas Brown as play-caller after Frank Reich’s firing, the Panthers remain at major personnel disadvantages exacerbated by RG Chandler Zavala’s (knee) year-ending loss. Joining Austin Corbett (knee) and Brady Christensen (torn biceps), Zavala is Carolina’s third first-team guard to be lost for the season. This is a particularly big problem in Week 13 against Bucs interior dominator Vita Vea. It’s a green-light spot to tee up Tampa Bay’s D/ST against Bryce Young, who’s averaging 4.7 sacks taken over his last six starts. … Although Chuba Hubbard out-snapped Miles Sanders 47 to 27 in Week 12’s defeat, Hubbard only out-touched Sanders 19 to 15. The Bucs have yielded the NFL’s seventh-fewest fantasy points to running backs. Hubbard did dominate pass routes run 26 to 7 over Sanders against the Titans, and Carolina risks playing from behind at Tampa. I’m siding with Hubbard as a shaky RB2/flex and ignoring Sanders here.
Young’s 2023 target distribution: Adam Thielen 86; Jonathan Mingo 51; Hubbard and Hayden Hurst 29; D.J. Chark 27; Sanders and Terrace Marshall 24; Tommy Tremble 15. … Thielen is a prime bounce-back candidate coming off his slowest game of the year. Running 65% of his routes in the slot, Thielen has been Young’s go-to guy all season.
