Las Vegas @ Denver
Team Totals: Broncos 24, Raiders 20
Jimmy Garoppolo’s Week 1 matchup is a mixed bag against a Broncos defense that boasts elite CB Patrick Surtain, dangerous EDGE rusher Randy Gregory, and ball-hawking FS Justin Simmons but has several question marks elsewhere in a new system under first-year DC Vance Joseph. Never a rushing threat, Jimmy G warrants low-end QB2 valuation. … Josh Jacobs should remain the centerpiece of Las Vegas’ offense after leading the league in total yards (2,053) in his first season under Josh McDaniels. Jacobs is in another contract year — the Raiders won’t hesitate to use him relentlessly — after clearing 18 touches in 14 of 17 games last season. … Davante Adams enters his age-30/31 campaign coming off NFL highs in target share (31%) and touchdown catches (14) on a career-high 180 targets. Adams ranked No. 8 among wide receivers in yards per route run (2.59), dispelling any lingering age concerns. Still, Adams’ clash with shutdown CB Surtain lowers his Week 1 floor. … Possession WR types Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow round out the Raiders’ probable three-receiver sets. Meyers might be usable when bye weeks set in. … Second-round rookie TE Michael Mayer blocked on 23 of his preseason snaps, running a route on only 18. I’m not anticipating an immediate fantasy impact from either Mayer or Austin Hooper.
