The Colts were widely expected to pick a tight end at No. 14 overall, and they made good on that expectation with the selection of Penn State TE Tyler Warren. Warren is a do-it-all TE who quite literally did it all for Penn State last year, including lining up in the backfield and taking wildcat snaps at QB. Below, we break down what to expect from Warren in Year 1 and how this affects the rest of the Colts’ offense.

TYLER WARREN

  • Warren had a slow start to his college career playing behind future NFLers Pat Freiermuth, Brenton Strange, Zack Kuntz, and Theo Johnson, but he finally got the TE1 gig to himself in 2024 and ran with it. Warren posted 104/1,233/8 as a senior while accounting for 34% of the Nittany Lions’ total receiving yards. He also carried the ball 26 times for 218 yards and four touchdowns playing all over the field, including as a wildcat quarterback, as Penn State made every effort to get Warren the rock as much as humanly possible. At nearly 6-foot-6 and 256 pounds, Warren is a mammoth of a man and drew a Rob Gronkowski comp from Daniel Jeremiah along with a Jeremy Shockey comp from Lance Zierlein. ETR’s Anthony Amico believes he projects mostly as an in-line TE at the next level and notes the learning curve associated with moving from college to the pros at that position. Jacob Gibbs pointed out that 24% of Warren’s targets last year came on screens. That’s not the type of production that typically carries over to the pros, making Warren an interesting projection, but it also highlights his otherworldly ability with the ball in his hands, and Zierlein raved about Warren’s football character and ability to play all over the field.
