Just as our Adam Levitan does each week during the NFL season, every Monday we’ll be using the week-long nature of DFS golf to take advantage of the extended feedback loop by analyzing what went right and what went wrong in the previous week’s slate, regardless of results.
Each week, we’ll review a variety of cash-game & GPP lineups in an effort to take you inside our thought process as we approached Thursday’s lock and how our projection- and ownership-based expectations stacked up against the field.
DraftKings Small-Field Tournament
At the risk of coming across as a whiner whose 3/6 lineup finished in the bottom 10% of single-entry contests this week, the three-course, 54-hole cut, pro-am American Express wasn’t my cup of tea. Now, if Cam Davis didn’t post a one-over 73 on Saturday and Scott Stallings didn’t turn a -8 opening round into a missed cut, I may be singing a different tune, but for the second week in a row, I bricked in small-field contests but more importantly sit down to write this postmortem less than pleased with how I played. Results aside, let’s take a look at how I landed on this team in the $200 buy-in Driver:
After last week’s Sony Open where balanced roster constructions featuring a hearty $9K range ruled the day, we got back to more of a true stars-and-scrubs field for this week’s AmEx with the field’s three most expensive golfers, Scottie Scheffler ($11,400), Patrick Cantlay ($10,800), and Xander Schauffele ($10,900), separating from the pack in a fairly significant way.
