Toronto Raptors at Orlando Magic
Team Totals: Raptors 113.8, Magic 102.8
Injury Report: Yuta Watanabe (Q, quad), Wendell Carter Jr. (O, wrist)
Raptors projected starters: Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr., Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam
Magic projected starters: Cole Anthony, R.J. Hampton, Franz Wagner, Chuma Okeke, Mo Bamba
Nurse quotes: Said Precious “was into it on the defensive end” and he did a great job on KAT, said Precious has “crossed over a psychological edge” on making his 3-pointers.
Mosley quotes: Said the performance staff is working with Fultz and they’re trying to figure out his minutes (sounds like he’s still hard capped), said Franz Wagner’s decision-making is better and that’ll be one of the “key pieces moving forward”.
Stats and Notes:
*These defenses have been very good since the break, but of course the Magic could pull some funny business. The Raptors living on turnovers should give them an edge over some younger ball-handlers, and the Magic were really bad on transition defense earlier this year. The Raptors have been playing incredibly slow lately, so this isn’t a great environment overall. The Magic will want to tank here, but the Raptors will give all they have to try to move up to No. 5.
*It’s a really good matchup for the guards here, and the Magic give up a lot of 3-pointers. With Fred VanVleet still not looking 100%, this could be a big spot for Gary Trent Jr.
*The Magic are likely going to have to throw Chuma Okeke at Siakam, so it’s clearly a spot he can exploit. The Magic are also going to switch a lot to put some tiny guys on him. Siakam is almost like a guard with how he plays and drives into the paint, so it’s a favorable spot for him, assuming the Magic can keep it close.
*There’s really nobody I like on the Magic side. The Raptors take away so many things they’re going to want to do. Franz Wagner likely will see a decent amount of OG Anunoby, but the way he’s playing does make him an option.
