Preseason DFS is a different beast. Unlike the regular season, our main job is to identify players who will get the most playing time. Of course, that’s easier said than done. Our team spends an unhealthy amount of time researching to come up with the Depth Chart Notes and Top Plays (below).
Quarterback
TIER 1
Will Grier, Dallas – After acquiring Trey Lance last night, Will Grier is now on the outside looking in on the Dallas depth chart. Thus, the Cowboys’ brass is giving him the entire game tonight in what is likely a showcase for the former third-round pick. He belongs in a tier of his own on the main slate.
TIER 2
Stetson Bennett, Los Angeles Rams – Bennett should see the vast majority of the Rams’ QB snaps tonight, with Brett Rypien resigned to mop-up duty only. Bennett has played 81% of the Rams’ QB snaps through the first two weeks, and they’ve been letting him air it out. Bennett has a 32 of 53 stat line for 333 yards, one touchdown, and one interception through those two games.
Skylar Thompson, Miami – Thompson has the dual-threat profile we like to target, and he should play the vast majority of today’s game. The only potential thing holding back his upside is that Mike McDaniel has said that starters like Tua Tagovailoa could play anywhere from a series to a half. If it’s the low end, Thompson is close to Grier as an option tonight.
TIER 3
Anthony Brown & Josh Johnson, Baltimore – We don’t expect Lamar Jackson or Tyler Huntley to play, so that does set up Baltimore’s QB3 and QB4 in Brown and Johnson to split this game tonight. We anticipate both Brown and Johnson getting a half. Brown may be slightly more interesting at this point in his career given he is 25 years old and mobile, as opposed to Josh Johnson, who is 37 years old.
TIER 4
Jarrett Stidham, Denver – Russell Wilson and the Broncos’ veteran starters are expected to play one series max, which sets up Stidham to take on the majority of the game for Denver. Third-stringer Ben DiNucci has only played 31 snaps through the first two games. Stidham is one of the better, if not the best passer that is in play on the main slate.
