New England @ N.Y. Jets
Team Totals: Patriots 24.5, Jets 18.5
Mac Jones’ stellar preseason spilled into Week 1 with a turnover-free game and 7.2 yards per attempt against an excellent Miami pass defense. The Jets’ backend is exponentially worse, although Jones’ lack of rushing threat and modest weapons continue to threaten his ceiling. I do love Jones as a two-QB-league play; Sam Darnold dropped top-16 Opening Day quarterback results on Robert Saleh’s defense, which lost starting FS Lamarcus Joyner to a year-ending arm injury, further decimating one of the sorriest secondaries in the league. … Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson’s Week 1 lost fumbles complicate the reliability of New England’s backfield pecking order, especially in Harris’ case since his turnover was of a game-costing nature.
