With J.K. Dobbins gone, the Chargers needed to revamp their running back room for 2025. They signed Najee Harris to a one-year deal in free agency and then made an even bigger splash on Thursday night by drafting North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton with the No. 22 overall pick. Let’s break this pick down for fantasy.
OMARION HAMPTON
- Hampton was a sparse producer on a Drake Maye-led, pass-first offense in his first college season before bursting onto the scene as a sophomore with 1,504 rushing yards (5.5 yards per attempt). He elevated his game even more as a junior last season with 1,660 yards in addition to a 38/373/2 receiving line. Hampton is a plus athlete with a 4.46 40-yard dash at 221 pounds and strong jumping numbers, and he boasts ideal size for a three-down NFL back. Scouts highlight his high-end power and aggression while noting he has soft hands and acceptable route-running ability. He’s widely regarded as a first-round pick, and while he’s no Ashton Jeanty, earning first-round draft capital as a running back in this day and age is no easy task. Hampton has the chops to be a starting running back in the pros immediately.
