GPP Data Review: Truist Championship

The evolution of Sepp Straka has been such a treat to watch these past few years, and adding a signature win to his accomplishments is well deserved. Sepp’s name belongs among the best in the world when it comes to iron play, and at courses that either reward accuracy or don’t need to be overpowered to win, he has proven himself to be elite. The twist too of an $8,700 golfer winning a small-field, no-cut event also provided us with a different DFS landscape than what we had been accustomed to seeing in the signature events. Big shout-out to Jeremy as well, who flag-planted Sepp where his squeeze in ownership was rewarded handsomely.

Scottie Scheffler skipping the signature event left Rory McIlroy on his own island for pricing, and despite DraftKings hanging him at just $12,000, McIlroy didn’t get nearly the ownership steam I would have expected based on his play in 2025. He topped out at 34.5% in MME and actually was under 30% in the $200 Single-Entry Driver. Typically we see some legit deltas between small-field to large-field contests, but the field overall smoothed out exposures where there wasn’t too much outlier steam. Here were the biggest differences between the $25 Flagship and the $555 Signature Hole.

With just 71 golfers in the field, it’s very natural to see higher ownership than a standard slate, so the fact that the $200 Single-Entry Driver did not have a single golfer exceed 30% was quite wild to me. The lack of course history definitely could have limited the groupthink, but there seemed to be a clear bomber’s narrative by the time lock hit, so I would’ve expected that to trickle more into ownership. Because of that more wide net of ownership, it looked to have a pretty big impact positively on uniqueness rates across the board, too.
