Last week, I did my first NFFC Online Championship draft of the year, splitting the team with Ben Gretch, who was my co-host for the ETE summer projections special podcast episodes.

The NFFC drafts, especially for an overall contest, are right up my alley. I generally tend to sway to Zero RB or Hero RB builds in managed leagues, and the NFFC structure amplifies the advantages of drafting this way because they are full PPR contests with 3 WR spots and 1 FLEX spot. Some other reasons I like NFFC drafts in particular for this year is that I believe:

  1. Elite/potentially elite TEs are being undervalued. When drafting accordingly, you can increase the ceiling of your team by taking advantage of this, especially in a structure where there’s an overall component.
  2. Drafters overreact to the 6-pt per passing TD scoring. This makes it easier to build dominant WR-heavy teams early, while taking advantage of upside fliers at the QB position later on.

You’ll see that Ben and I integrated the above two points into our draft.

Setting Your KDS Preferences

The NFFC does two things that I like a lot that work together:

  1. You can set your draft spot preferences (then it’s a lottery system to see if you get your preferred draft choice).
  2. It’s three-round reversal. So, the first pick of the third round starts at pick 12, not pick 1. From there, it snakes normally the rest of the way. This brings a lot more balance to draft spots, counteracting some of the edge that the drafters out of the No. 1 or 2 spots have.

How should you set your KDS?

Ben and I set it like this:

1, 2, 12-3
