Saints Passing Game
Drew Brees re-signed with the Saints on a two-year, $50 million deal following an injury-riddled 2019 campaign, of which Brees missed Weeks 3-7 with a broken right (throwing) thumb. He stayed efficient across 11 starts, leading the NFL in completion rate (74.3%) for the third straight year, banking a superb 27:4 TD-to-INT ratio, and ranking top five in adjusted yards per pass attempt (8.8). Brees is due for TD Rate regression after his 2019 clip (7.1%) vastly outpaced his career percentage (5.4%), however, while Taysom Hill threatens red-zone usage, and Jameis Winston can handle mop-up duty when the ultra-talented Saints blow opponents out. Especially at his top-ten QB1 ADP, Brees is an easy fade for me.
Taysom Hill was rewarded with a two-year, $21 million deal after contributing nine all-purpose TDs in 17 games – playoffs included – while averaging 5.8 yards per carry and 10.6 yards per target as the Saints’ swiss-army-knife “joker.” The Saints turned to Teddy Bridgewater over Hill during Brees’ five missed starts, however, then signed Jameis Winston to presumably fill their true No. 2 quarterback role. Ultimately, Hill is a 30-year-old gadget player with exactly six NFL completions. I’m still in favor of drafting Hill as a QB3/4 in two-quarterback leagues, where he can be stashed as a bye-week flex play.
