Welcome to the first edition of GPP Leverage for the 2020-2021 NBA season. This article is going to be a catch-all space for my GPP thoughts. In most of the articles I’ll address some of the relevant GPP plays for that day’s slate, but some of the articles will be more focused on plays and others more focused on strategy. Today is going to be a macro strategy-based article as we look to dissect some of the differences between NBA and NFL DFS while also analyzing how to approach different slate sizes. For those new to the site, I’ve touched on areas of these topics in the past and they’re available under the NBA –> DFS Strategy dropdown where you can find pieces like how to attack two-game slates.

Part One: NFL vs. NBA DFS

Many of you have played NFL DFS extensively and through the years you’ve learned strategies on stacking, adding secondary correlation, and leveraging ownership all in pursuit of creating unique lineups that reward you for being different than the field and allow you to surge up the leaderboards when you find that one big play. Some of these concepts are foundational pieces to DFS that can be utilized across all sports, but how we implement them may differ based on the context of the game we’re playing. So let’s start broadly and examine some of the differences between NBA and NFL DFS and see what we can take and what we need to adjust based on the sport we’re playing.
